Tony West Jr. is a certified school psychologist and serves as the lead school psychologist for the largest school district in Georgia. He has been a member of the executive board of the Georgia Association of School Psychologists since 2019, holding positions such as regional representative and President. Tony earned his Education Specialist in School Psychology and Master of Science in Psychology from Radford University in 2011 and has been a certified school psychologist since then. Throughout his career, Tony has worked with diverse communities across the United States.
Tony has dedicated much of his career to serving families from underrepresented populations in underserved communities as a school psychologist. As a Black man in the field of school psychology, he recognizes his role as a double minority, which has fueled his passion to champion those who may face challenges in advocating for themselves. Tony is the oldest of five boys and two of his brothers were diagnosed with disabilities while attending public school. Despite both of his parents attending college, they still faced challenges in understanding the educational systems as parents of children with disabilities. Through their experiences, they needed more support than was available to them to make informed decisions for their children.
Having witnessed these challenges firsthand, Tony is committed to ensuring that parents never feel the way his parents did. He has dedicated his professional career to supporting and consulting with families through the special education process, educating them about child development and behavior, and advocating for their children as a parent.
